What is VSCO?

VSCO has been popping up a lot recently in lots of girls Instagram bios, I myself, use VSCO and love the community. But... What is VSCO? It is yo girl emilia, and today I am answering that question. (I am not sponsored by VSCO in anyway) (ha i wish)
To sum it up in one sentence: VSCO is a social media website and app that you can edit, post, and discover photos shared by people all around the world. But VSCO is mostly known for their wide variety of presets, A.K.A. "filters" and editing features that you can use for free. In this post, I will explain how you use this app and how it also different from Instagram in many, many ways.

Instagram has become one of the most largest social media websites and apps, it was even bought by Facebook and is now a part of their company. On Instagram you can post photos and videos that appear on your profile and your followers can see. VSCO is very similar, yet more laid back and more focused on the art of photography. One big difference between VSCO and Instagram is that on VSCO you can follow people, but there aren't no follower counts on your page, no likes on each photo, it is meant to see and share beautiful photos among friends and strangers.

When you first open VSCO, you will be brought to your studio. In this space, you can import photos and edit them to however you please. But before you edit them, you may want to go to their preset shop and grab a couple of the free ones. VSCO partners with companies and movies sometimes to create free presets for you to edit with! If you are confused what presets are, they are basically frosting for a plain cookie you have. Every preset is different, and that means every frosting and cookie are different too and you just have to find which one do you like.

In the editing studio, you can edit with presets, and also go more advanced and edit with Exposure, Contrast, Saturation, Temperature, Grain, Sharpness, and many more tools to set the photo just the way you like it. It takes practice, and it also takes time to learn which presets you like more and what are your go to tools. Once you are finished, you can post it to your profile with hashtags and a caption. On your profile, after you have posted several, it will put your photos is a cool block pattern way. It is a lot more abstract than the regular grid of Instagram profiles.

After following some photographers that you like or just some of your friends, there are two ways that you can show your love for the post. Number one is favoriting the post (the star), this is similar to liking a post on Instagram. The other form is republishes. This is similar to reblogging something on Tumblr. When you republish someones post, this means that you really like it and you want all of your followers to see it too. The posts that you republish also appear on your profile as a part of your "collection", so republish wisely.  These are the two ways that you can show love to someones post, so spread some love on VSCO today :)

The next thing that I want to talk about is DSCO, which is very similar to Boomerang on Instagram. It is a small video that has no sound but you can add filters to it and post it to your profile. They have become pretty popular and they are really fun to make.

In conclusion, VSCO is a social media app that is used for editing and sharing photography that people from all over the world share. VSCO is not only for girls, which is a common misconception. I know boys who use VSCO to post and show their love of photography and actually make their photos look badass. The choice is yours boys, on whether or not if you want to use it.

Thank you for reading this post, I hope you now know what this is. Please spread the word that VSCO is not just for girls and that it is a welcoming platform for all sorts of creators.

Love,
yo girl emilia
