7 Books to Read in Summer 2019

Summer 2019, I can't believe that we are almost there. Most people like to spend their summer relaxing after a long school year or take a vacation to get away from work. To me, reading a book on the beach or while on a road trip is very enjoyable. So here is a list of books that are fun to read. It doesn't matter if you are a heavy reader like me, or you hardly read at all, I recommend these books for the summer.

#1 Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch

This is a contemporary romance novel that is set in Florence, Italy involves our main character, Lina, who is sent to Italy to meet her father after her mother's death. She doesn't like it, she doesn't want to be there and finds all sorts of reasons to leave. But when she finds her mother's old journal, she stays to learn about her mother. In her search for clues about her mother and father, Lina herself meets new people and falls in love. I finished this book SO quickly and I was immediately wanting to meet a sweet Italian boy and some hazelnut gelato.

#2 Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

If you aren't really interested in an easy to read, coming of age, contemporary book, here is a high fantasy series that I always recommend. This series just finished up last fall so you can binge read all the books if you have the time. Throne of Glass stars with our main character, Calaena, who is an assassin rescued from a salt working camp, placed into a fierceness competition to become the King's personal assassin. With mysterious magic and murder all around, you just want to keep reading to know what happens next.

#3 Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

If you saw the romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians in the fall of 2018, it was all about this wonderful book series. I just finished this trilogy earlier this year and I l think it is the PERFECT book series to read if you aren't a frequent reader. There is humor, there is so much travel involved, there is romance, there are jewels and fashion, and food that makes you want Chinese takeout. Throughout the book, the author, Kevin Kwan (who is a Singapore native), leaves hilarious authors notes and translations. That way a reader unfamiliar with the environment (ahem, ME) can understand it. I think this book is perfect to read on the beach, on the plane, in the car, and at night after a long, summer day.

#4 A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

With the biggest blockbuster of the year involving time travel, here is a time travel novel filled with different dimensions of your favorite cities around the world. Maugerite is the daughter of 2 incredible physicists, but when her father is murdered and the suspect is her friend and her parents assistant, Paul, she travels through different realities and dimensions to track him down.

#5 Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

If you get bored, frustrated, or annoyed with a boring, old book, here is a revolutionary way a story is told with this book. Kady had just broken up with her boyfriend, Ezra, and later that day her planet is invaded. She ends up living on a ship where tensions are high, a disease rapidly spreading, and an AI causing the deaths of thousands. With her hacking skills, and communicating with Ezra, will she be able to defeat the evil Artificial Intelligence making a mind of its own? Trust me when I say that this book is not what you expect it to be.

#6 Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

This is a fun book set in the summer is about Emily, who just had her best friends disappear before summer. She is hurt and confused, until one day a letter arrives in the mail. It is a list of things to complete in this summer, with no sender or letter. Emily believes that completing the list will lead her to Sloane, her best friend. Read this adventurous story filled with friendships, memories, and humor. It is such a cute story and it honestly inspires me to make "lists" for my friends.

#7 Capital Gaines by Chip Gaines

This was the first book I read this year. If you spend your Saturdays sitting on the couch, wrapped up in blankets, watching HGTV for 7 hours straight (like me), then you are probably familiar with the show, Fixer Upper. Set in Waco, Texas, this home renovation show stars this married couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines, and they transform homes into beautiful, southern-yet modern styles that make me want to make a Pinterest board filled with home interior ideas. The Gaines' also have their own store and business within Waco, called Magnolia. This book is a memoir from Chip Gaines, giving his funny insight on his past, how he met Joanna, and how he remains motivated and positive. I recommend it if you need some motivation for summer or school.

Well, that's my list. Let me know in the comments down below what you will be reading this summer, what you recommend for me to read this summer or just any book recommendations you have :)
